RossThis self-titled debut EP from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin based band, The Everyday Motive, offers up 7 very well done songs. The band’s lead vocals are handled by John Marszalkowski (rhythm guitar) who does a strong job of bringing each word he sings to life. The songs found on this EP also feature a nice blend of Marszalkowski’s lead vocals mixed with backing vocals from Rob Ison (drums) and Jerry Bakkus (lead guitar).The remaining member of the band is bass guitarist Desiree Marszalkowski. Her bass line parts are always laying in the background waiting for their chance to leap to the front with killer parts.The band’s music has been described as having pop, alt. rock, and 90’s grunge undertones but I see their music more as straight up rock n’ roll that’s bursting at the seams to turn into hard rock with stabbing guitar riffs and pounding drum beats.This EP comes out of the starting block strong with the tracks, “Anything Done Differently” an up tempo rocker that’s driven by its lively guitar and drum parts along with those previously mentioned great vocals blends. “Lock it Up,” slows things down just a bit and offers up a really interesting cadence to its lead vocals that really caught my attention. “From What I Can Remember,” speed things up with its fast punk-like drumming and big rock guitar and bass parts.Track-4, “You’re No Good,” features hard rock guitars, blended vocals, and a bass line that is content to lay in the background like a tiger stalking its prey ready to pounce when the time is right.Track-5, “The Most That Shows,” is a mixture of medium and up-tempo beats. Track-6, “Bored of You,” offers up some of those killer bass parts that I mentioned earlier in this review.Track-7,”Waste Away,” gets the privilege of ending the EP like it started, very strong.I liked about everything that I heard on this EP from The Everyday Motive and have become a fan of their music. I also have a strong feeling from listening to their music that if you ever get the chance to see them perform live you’ll be in for a really great time.
