Mari delivers a solid vocal performance that provides the right amount of emotional content for each song. She has clearly chosen to perform songs that connect to her own experience, or about which she has deep personal feelings. Whether looking back with regret as expressed in Angel From Montgomery or the wistful longing for more innocent times in Down Home, Mari assumes the character in the song and tells their story. As a novice songwriter, Mari offers Love Blues (I Don't Know When I'm Gonna See Ya'), her debut recording of an original song. In it, she expresses the aching one feels when they are newly in love, and not too sure about the object of their affections. She captures it most clearly in the bridge,"Oh, let it pour on me, love, pour down on me". On this CD, Mari offers up classics such as Georgia On My Mind, and Blue Moon, as well as lesser known songs from contemporary singer songwriters, including two Gillian Welch/David Rawlings tunes. Throughout her newly-budding performing career, Mari has been attracted to songs that tell a story from the woman's perspective, although she does not confine herself to those. Songs like Look at Miss Ohio and Angel From Montgomery are two such examples.Mari has performed in bands and small groups, and tinkers around on mandolin, guitar, and ukulele. But her voice is her primary instrument, and her singing shines on this debut CD.
