It was a shared love for melodic and uplifting guitardriven pop music that brought the members of The Maureens together. The Maureens debuted in 2013 with a selftitled album that contained a distinct mixture of sixties nostalgia and more modern indiepop. Sounds from The Beach Boys, The Posies and Big Star were fused together in catchy, energetic and uplifting pop songs. The album was received well by critics and the audience: The Maureens performed on Dutch national television and radio and the album also got some attention from the USA and Japan. Two years later the band from Utrecht, the Netherlands is still writing and performing their exciting and melodic alternative pop songs. A selection of these songs was recorded last spring and will be released on September 12th as an album named ‘Bang the Drum’. The new material maybe feels somewhat more personal, powerful and upfront, with the spirit of bands like Johan, Teenage Fanclub and Jayhawks added to the already rich mixture that defines The Maureens.
