The heart and soul is Selina's singing on all of the tracks. Mike's guitar playing adds the harmonic groove and we we're grateful to have the help of many music friends who we've gotten to know over the years. Like Tshanda Sangwa from the Congo and his Mom, Sonja Altherr from Switzerland. Sonja was Mike's guitar student back in the 1980's. Later, a professional singer, she lived in Kinshasa, Congo with her young son, Tshanda, who soon became a child star in his own right (google"Bebe Tshanda"). The wars and turmoil in the Congo led Sonja and Tshanda to return to Switzerland to start over. Getting back in touch with Mike led to their collaboration with Selina and Mike on this album. Listen to the singing on"Yoleli" a Congolese Pygmy yodeling song (!!) or the soulful breakdown section of"Ishe Oluwa", a Nigerian prayer for sustenance.We've been playing for years with the outstanding Dutch"World Music" violinist Monique Lansdorp (see our other releases"Bessarabian Groove" and"Thank You").
