Originally formed in 1978, Human Hands began as an anomaly in the Los Angeles punk scene - mixing alternative artpop influences from the more eccentric bands, such as Talking Heads, Magazine, XTC and Television with the more visceral, aggressive sounds of The Clash, Buzzcocks and Elvis Costello. After three years of performing at some of L.A.’s historic clubs, including The Whiskey-A-Go-Go and The Starwood, the group disbanded in 1981 – only to reform briefly in 1999 for a punk rock awards show at Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica. That show featured ex-Possum Dixon singer Rob Zabrecky and four original members – guitarist Juan Gomez, drummer Dennis Duck, bassist Rick Potts and keyboardist Bill Noland (singer David Wiley passed away in 1986). Intended only as a one-time event, the Track 16 show sparked a renewed fervor and the band continued to perform and record, eventually adding new members Pierre Smith (guitar), Marc Salata (bass) and Jeff White (vocals) to fill out the new lineup. The new EP “Everything Beautiful and Bright” is the follow-up to the 2008 album “Backyard Anthems” and the 2004 EP “Emily Watson”. Featuring 5 new songs by original members Juan Gomez and Dennis Duck, as well as a new recording of the 1978 set list staple “Sensible Guy”, “Everything Beautiful and Bright” offers a dizzying variety of songs ranging from the sunny Television-esque bounce of “This Town” to the soaring guitars of the majestic “I’ll Be Your Planet” to the darker, earthier buzz of “Meditations In An Emergency”. “Everything Beautiful and Bright” promises to reward the adventurous listener and - once again - challenge the norms of alternative music.With Human Hands – as with so many things in life – the more things change, the more they stay the same.
