Written by Jerry Ragavoy and George David Weiss this song was the first hit for Lorraine Ellison back around 1966/67. I was in London recording and Lorraine's song had taken the music industry by storm. Although only a minor hit in the UK, many artistes of the time including Kiki Dee, The Walker Brothers and later Bette Midler, recorded cover versions of this beautiful song. I always thought that most of the artistes missed the point, which was that only the performance of a broken hearted singer could do Stay With Me, Baby the sort of justice it really demanded. I wrote a monologue for the middle of this recording which adds a little of my own truth.Normie
