01. Arran Boat Song Arran Boat Song is an Irish air written about the Isle of Arran, a Scottish island located in the North Channel of the Irish Sea, separating Ireland from Scotland. Even today, the Isle of Arran is dependent on ferries to connect it to the rest of the world.02. Jamie Come Try Me- Robert Burns Robert Burns wrote this in 1789. The poem is a declaration of allegiance to the exiled Stuart line and the unyielding loyalty to James II, and a commitment to take up arms.03. My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose- Robert Burns This work was written in 1794 by Robert Burns. According to some experts, it was based on a song Burns heard a girl sing while he was visiting the countryside. The poet himself, a pioneer of the Romantic Movement, referred to it as a 'simple old Scots song which I had picked up in the country.'04. Eriskay Love Lilt A well-known tune from Margaret Kennedy- Fraser's 'Songs of the Hebrides'. It tells of a young woman's longing for her absent lover. The island of Eriskay lies between Barra and South Uist in the outer Hebrides. It was on this small island that Prince Charles Edward Stuart first set foot on Scottish soil at the start of the Rising in 1745. The bay where he landed is still called Prince's Bay. The song was first heard from Mary Macinnes of Eriskay.05. Words were composed by Sir Harold Boulton (1859-1935), an enigmatic character whose fascination with the music and songs of Scotland began early in life while attending an Oxford University reading trip to the Highlands. 09. Bonnie at Morn Is a Northumbrian lullaby where the mother expresses both tenderness and exasperation at her children. Northumbria is the only part of England with its own regional music-dialect. It has its own stock of melodies that are distinct in style from tones anywhere else in the country. 10. Ye Banks and Braes o'Bonnie Doon This work was written by Robert Burns in 1791. Burns wrote three versions of this song. The first was printed in Johnson's 'Scots Musical Museum' Vol. 4 in 1792 when Burns was 33. The second version, was also written in 1791 but was not printed until1008, after Burn's death, in Cromek's 'Reliques of Robert Burns.' The third version, was published roughly around the same time as the second version by Corrie in his edition of Burns in a work entitled 'The Musical Repository; A Collection of Favourite Scotch, English and Irish Songs.'
