To Hire a Nurse's debut studio recording, the 5-track EP"Marrying Man", was recorded over the first weekend of January, 2013. Principle tracking took place at Sting Recording Studios in Jeppe, Johannesburg (South Africa), with engineer/producer Matthew Fink and his assistant Harry Allan.The first day in studio was dedicated towards set-up and sound balance, with drums (Warrick Poultney) and bass (James Finnemore) being placed in the vast foyer of the studio, and vocals/acoustic guitar (Connor O'Brien), electric guitar (Donovan Campbell) and electric violin (Waldo Alexander) situated in the main recording booth. Day two was dedicated to the recording of guide tracks, as well as the final tracking of bass and drums, and day three focused on the finer details of the rhythm section, as well as the final tracking of vocals.An additional session for tracking electric guitar and electric violin took place on January 10th, and the final master was completed in late April, at Matthew Fink's home studio.Due to a number of constraints, the decision was made to rather record an EP as opposed to a full-length album. The aim was to choose a selection of songs from THaN's existing repertoire, which would best demonstrate the band's musical style and O'Brien's lyrics, appeal to current supporters, and potentially expand the listening audience, both locally and abroad. To Hire a Nurse have been working in its current format since September 2009, and the release of"Marrying Man" is a milestone that both the band and their fans feel is long overdue. None the less, it is a release of which we are tremendously proud, and sincerely grateful for, and we hope that it will meet with the approval of our loyal supporters, as well as that of future listeners.
