This year saw the completion of USS’s second album, ‘To the Wolves’ - a truly home grown record. Being self-sufficient was crucial to producing the coherent and emotive record they had been planning since 2010’s critically acclaimed debut ‘Start/Stop’ - an album which, whilst gaining the band well deserved attention from the likes of Steve Lamacq, NME and Rocksound, took years to make and involved a multitude of players. ‘To the Wolves’ brought a more focused approach and is a more honest piece of work, recorded and mixed at their self-made studio ‘The Living Rooms’ by guitarist Dan Best. The writing process remained centred around Edd Simpson’s natural feel for words and melody, and whilst retaining their epic post-rock sound, new personnel in the form of pianist Steve James and cellist Alex Priest, have inevitably paved the way for new ideas and greater depth. USS head out on the road this spring supporting Charlie Simpson, and will headline the Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on Friday May 30th.
