"Left-Handed, Upside-Down" includes a selection of love songs, some of which reflect the heartbreak of a broken relationship (especially"Guess You'll Never Understand"), some of which reflect the bitterness following a breakup (especially"Crazy Mixed-Up Kid" and"Lies, All Lies"), some of which reflect the more positive feelings when you get over the breakup (such as"I've Heard It All Before" and"New Tomorrow"), and some which reflect being in love (such as"Vision")."Aria" has a slightly"hippy" or"flower power" feel to it,"I'm Feeling Fine" has a Latin dance flavour."You Came To Me In Your Song" was influenced by some of the singer-songwriters who were almost thought of (in the 70s) as modern philosophers - those who believed that music could change world events and the politics of greed. Sadly, this didn't turn out to be the case. Nice try though."Hey Girl You're Beautiful" is a message to someone that I am too shy to ask out."And so I wrote this song, 'cos it's my way. Perhaps you'll hear it played some day". It could have been written to a number of girls I fancied in my teens but was too shy to talk to.In case you haven't guessed, the album title refers to the way that I play the guitar"Left-Handed, Upside-Down". A lot of left-handed players play this way because, like me, they were given a right-handed guitar and naturally turned it over to play it left-handed, rather than re-stringing it first.
