When I first came to Vienna I did all the usual things that tourists do and, as everyone knows, found Vienna to be a captivating city so rich in history and culture. Of course the classical music offerings in Vienna are second to none, although I am not a classical music buff like my wife, Deb, who still takes immense pleasure from attending concerts and operas. But once I got to know the city of Vienna as a resident, I found an amazing culture of blues, rock, indie and jazz that one does not usually associate with Vienna. Hanging out in blues bars and going to jam sessions, helped me get to know the musicians and through them, the good nature of the Austrian people. I found that the caliber of blues, rock and jazz musicians here was unbelievable.I began playing in my own band, Mean Streets, performing Soul / Motown covers. Branching off from that, I started my own band to perform my compositions and started Danny Chicago and the Lucky Band. The name Danny Chicago came from being referred to as “Danny from Chicago” so often when being introduced at jam sessions, which was easier to remember than Danny LoCascio. I soon found ideas in writing songs about the city of Vienna from a light hearted humorous perspective. After seeing how the Austrian audiences responded so positively to my songs and in such a genial way, I decided to record them in a studio and this is how Take Me to Vienna came to be. I also included a few songs not related to Vienna.I was lucky enough to get friends who are top notch rock, jazz and country musicians to play on my album, as well as the talented backup singing of Bina Bonelli and Clara Montocchio.I want to thank my wife Deb for all the time and support she gave me to work on this project. Also I want to thank her elementary students who enthusiastically added their voices and screams on Take Me to the Prater. And I want to thank all the friends who gave me support and advice while the album was being created. Listen and enjoy. Danny LoCascio
