Formed in New York, 2007, mune is a duo interested in exploring the creative possibilities of the twenty-first century's social, political, and artistic situation. They are picking up the pieces of artistic movements from the 20th century and appropriating them into their own musical vision. Everything that came before this moment is data. There is no high art or low art; there is only information--fodder for art and thought. mune is unlearning. Good artists steal. Bad artists imitate. un was born from a desire on the part of the musicians to explore themselves. mune is egotism. mune approaches the musical composition outside of simply attempting to express emotion; the artists focus on crafting a conceptual and musical whole.Daniel Scott Akselrad draws inspiration from photography, all kinds of music, Elliott Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Mario Sorrenti, The Mars Volta, Radiohead, etc. Manuel Arturo Abreu draws inspiration from rap music, electronic music, jazz, Bela Bartok, Radiohead, James Joyce, Thomas Pynchon, John Cage, Gertrude Stein, Andy Warhol, language poetry, free improvisation, etc.
