Combining elements of downtempo electronica, jam rock, and ambient folk, Boston based singer-producer Ray Ward began releasing music as General Crush in late 2015. Growing up in a musical family (and named after Ray Charles), Ward played bass in local rock and reggae bands at an early age. He started writing songs on acoustic guitar while in college and toured the east coast as a folk artist. Influenced by downbeat producers such as Bonobo and Tycho, Ward began programming beats and experimenting with samplers, developing a unique approach to electronic music that is grounded in organic sounds. His laid-back, haunting vocals have been compared to artists such as James Blake and Chet Faker, producing powerful and soulful hooks that are wonderfully unique.
