My new album, Solitude, is a massive, rebellious challenge for me. It is an attempt to completely deconstruct the rules of Dub Techno.I started with a simple hypothesis:"As long as there's a minor chord and an auto-filter, the essence of dub techno remains." Keeping only that core signifier, I destroyed all the other standard rules. Instead of the typical heavy sub-bass, I used acoustic upright and electric basses. I threw away standard 4/4 kicks in favor of breaks, unpredictable generative sequencers, and even experimental tracks made entirely of granular noise and sine waves.Despite the title Solitude, this isn't just a quiet, sinking ambient record. Deep, introspective tracks alternate with more uplifting, driving ones. It mirrors the real emotional waves you experience when you are truly alone the quiet sinking, and the sudden rushes of heartbeat and thought.The album closes with Hammer, an outlier track driven by the squelchy, aggressive acid bass of a TB-303. It's a literal hammer to shatter any remaining expectations and safe harmony.I hope you immerse yourself in these unpredictable waves of solitude.
