Unlike"Vessel,""AM" utilizes cello, electronic synthesizing, piano, and percussion. With people as inspiration,"AM" serves as a narrative of doubt, longing, and compassion. The lo-fi acoustic atmosphere brings the listener to a meditative state; the layering of melodies run towards catharsis. A collaborative effort,"AM" features Aliya Ultan on cello and piano and Keara Dooley as a vocal harmonist and percussionist. Will Johnson is the album's electro-acoustic engineer--he recorded the album on a tape recorder with one microphone. All music on"AM" is written and performed by Anne Malin Ringwalt.
