The album"Viola" starts out with 'A Blessing and a Curse Part I', a guitar instrumental full of lush tones starting beautifully slow and building to a fading intensity before moving into the almost bluesy lounge-like 'Blacked Out Days'. While there is definitely swagger here and enough guitar work to satisfy most Rock N' Roll enthusiasts; you can tell this is a departure from Stuart Coy's previous works in the past (and most recently) leading up to Mother Strange. These songs and sounds are more immediately intimate. Songs like the southern tinged 'This Time Around'; a worn, soulful croon over acoustic guitar and warm 70’s like electric leads...and this isn’t a one off track. It is merely setting the tone for all that follows. Instrumentals like 'Bridge of Lions' and the gorgeous 'Blessing and a Curse Part II' are interspersed between songs like the title track, 'Viola', an uplifting ode to the artist's infant daughter. Another of the album's highlights is the bourbon smooth 'Blood Moon'. 'Devine' gives you an acoustic interlude culminating in a near late 60’s hippy tinged guitar solo before reeling you back in with the introspective 'Down the Road'. 'Viola (Reprise)', a final instrumental, finishes the album and is definitely a fitting end piece. To me,"Viola" seems to be a dedicated and veteran rock musician’s attempt to reach something different, deeper and entirely more personal…. and succeeding.(Chris Harvey-Hangman's Crown and East Tower Band)
