People like to talk about their seventeen's. It is the time when they are both a child and an adult." Kingsley Mak describes his debut EP"17" as a narrative about growing up, and it revolves around the things that happened when he was seventeen. To kick off the storyline of the EP,"Slowly","Overreact", and"Dumped" form a trilogy that conveys the fantasy of teenage love and the betrayal of friends from the perspectives of"He","She", and"I", respectively. In"Thankful", he talks about his disappointment with a person he looked up to, but he is still grateful for the things she taught him. When it comes to the song"Weird to Be Happy", it summarises the trilogy, thus expressing his complicated feelings towards growth and despair of the people around him.In this self-written and produced project, Kingsley Mak attempts to create a sense of innocence through lyricism, song production and cover art, which perfectly fits the"child" part in the motto of this EP. Growing up is like collecting pieces of different stories, pinning them on a board and trying to wonder the other side of each incident. The"adult" part in the motto will be continued in a future project and eventually develop into a definition of growing up.
