Brothers Steve and Jim Wilson, collectively known as Shrink Wrap, have successfully created sonic spaces that can be experienced either as an active or a passive participant. Their compositions can be relegated to the background of the mind, or, if the listener so wishes brought into “mindful” space where he or she can “engage the different areas of [the] brain”. Most of their unique compositions are categorized by reviewers as “Ambient Music” with overtones of “Fourth World”, a term coined by composer/trumpeter Jon Hassell to describe his musical style combining the philosophy and techniques of minimalism with Asian and African styles while using both acoustic and electronic instruments. And as for ambient music, to quote pioneer Brian Eno;"Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting. In other words, it is always up to the listener to determine how actively they engage with the music they hear. Both members of Shrink Wrap have been engaged in various studies of altered states of consciousness and bring this experience to their music-making collaboration. In this CD, Shrink Wrap has consciously attempted to provide opportunities for mindful engagement for listeners. We hope you choose to do so.
