This collection includes both songs and keyboard instrumentals over 40 years from the the 1960s to 2005. The first few selections are pop and jazz songs from the 1960s. The three"Seasonal Songs" from the 1970s are based on texts about the ending of each season."A Gift Round" was composed for the Sharing A New Song Chorus and their Russian tour in 1988. It opened a concert in Russia which featured for the first time both Russian and American choruses. The round is sung in Russian with the translation being:"We give you a gift of our songs." There are two sets of piano variations, one (No. 3) from 1968 based on an original theme, and the other (No. 10) from 2005 based on the familiar tune of"Auld Lang Syne," followed by a rare vocal version from 19th century New England. The title song of the album is from a live concert and based on an anti-war poem written by a 10 year old school girl back in 1814 during The War of 1812, written several months before"The Star-Spangled Banner." The opening words can speak to us today as well:"Come, Gentle Peace, with smiling ray, Beam on our land, a cloudless day." The songs and instrumentals on this album exhibit both a calmness and a joyous exuberance with examples of peace --"Gentle Peace."
