I was shocked that this is a trio band! The song “Dead Inside” had a heaviness I absolutely loved and the sound of how it all worked rocked. The double bass pumped like crazy, it always blows me away when the double bass goes that fast. The vocals in the sound of Pillars of Creation are awesome as they change from Death growler, to Heavy Metal front man, to scream in all the same song. I would describe the assault on the mind from Pillars of Creation as all out metal. These three guys have definitely found a niche that most 4-5 piece bands reach for. “Eyes Upon” also was a great song, the lead breaks make you want to bang your head, and never stop. I liked the mix of vocals in this one too. If they are all singing or if it’s one guy it all sounds great. I wish I had more to listen to. “Together we Fall” was filled with solid riffs, great speed and rhythm. Incorporating the influences of bands such as Death, Opeth, Pantera, Megadeth, Nevermore and Mastodon, POC maintains a clear and distinct sound that transcends the stereotype of any metal sub-genre. Forming in 2012, Pillars Of Creation soon found themselves recording their demo at The Tone Factory studios with producer Vinnie Castaldo. Eager to promote their brand of metal, they hit the stage that December. The well-received introduction of Tom Madera (guitars), Bryan Walker (vocals, drums) and Mathew Whaley (vocals, bass) by audiences was a powerful affirmation of the sum of their hard work, passion and years of live experience. Gaining notoriety with the unholy marriage of songwriting, technique, business sense and a vice tight yet comedic live performance, they secured opening slots with national acts including Adrenaline Mob, Dark Tranquility, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Moonspell, Black Crown Initiate, Allegeaon, Hate Eternal Nile, Mushroomhead, Septic Flesh, Exmortus, Starkill, Landmine Marathon and Vital Remains. Along with playing shows in California and Utah, POC was given the opportunity to play at Club Envy’s first “Metal Night” in Mesquite NV, thanks to heavy radio play on Las Vegas’ KOMP Homegrown Show.Already a local favorite in the city of Las Vegas, Pillars Of Creation is humbled but driven and poised to tour and make fans all over the world. Additionally, Pillars Of Creation are hard at work writing and perfecting new music for their inevitable debut EP. And while POC stays busy and focused on their brand, they are also putting together a local metal compilation called “NVO: New Vegas Order”, due out in 2014. The focus of the compilation is to build and connect a community of metal bands to help promote and work with each other. Aiming their creativity to further the Vegas metal scene as well as POC itself is the ultimate goal.
