Introducing Clayton & Ernie -- a duo based in Portland, Oregon, blending voices in original harmonies, backed with guitar and harmonica. Performing together since 2009, they have an eclectic repertoire of songs from the folk, pop, country, and jazz traditions, and original compositions by Ernie. Clayton Morgareidge, originally from California, was a philosophy professor for most of four decades before retiring in 2002. Music has always been a part of his life studying the violin and singing in choral groups. He sings bass and plays harmonica with Clayton & Ernie. Ernie Tong hails from upstate New York where he immersed himself in music at an early age. A Portland resident since 1979, he sings baritone and plays guitar with Clayton & Ernie. “Kaleidoscope” brings together fourteen well-loved songs by such widely varied artists as Lennon & McCartney, George Shearing, John Prine, Paul Simon, The Kinks, and The Killers. The sound on this album is enriched by the contributions of some outstanding Portland musicians performing on keyboard, violin, slide guitar, bass, mandolin, and percussion. At the center of the musical texture is always the unique blend of the two voices that Portland audiences have come to expect and enjoy whenever Clayton & Ernie are on stage.
