In May of 2005, Javier joined the non-profit organization “Trekking For Kids” and embarked on a journey that would change his life. The group traveled to Cusco, Peru and trekked the Inca Trail to raise money for an orphanage for blind children. During the Trek the ancient Inca culture and a beautiful concept was unveiled to Javier. It opened his eyes to a new way of seeing life where community and self come together through work and love. Javier’s “Vida, Trabajo, Amor” explores the strength in this life process, which allows our society to grow and share as one... like a drop on a flower. This idea and philosophy is captured in the “Chakana”, which holds the secret of the Inca’s meaning of life.The Chakana symbolizes, through its design, balance, harmony and wholeness in all areas of life. It represents all 5 elements. The north is air, in the south is water, the east is fire and the west is earth. In the center is the 5th element, which is the active force of love. The steps on each side represent the 3 worlds. The bottom level is the Uju Pacha which is the underworld (subconscious). Its animal symbol is the snake. The middle section is the Kay Pacha which is the present world (normal consciousness) and its animal symbol is the puma. The top section is the Hanag Pacha which is the upper world (superconscious) and its animal symbol is the condor. It holds, within the steps, the principles of the tradition. They are Yachay, Llankay and Munay.Yachay means knowledge in its basic expression, but its higher expression is wisdom. It is knowledge, which has been integrated through experience and is externalized as wisdom. We must live what we know and master it in our daily lives. Llankay relates to work, labor and productivity. It is to work in an honest way and to be honest in your work. It is to work not only for the betterment and greater good of yourself and your family, but also your community and humanity. Munay is a word that simply means love and is present in all others. It is not simply the love between a man and a woman, a mother and a child, although these interactions can contain the infinite expressions of Munay. Rather, it is the expression of unconditional love that contains a deep-seated compassion for all livings things and their suffering.
