by Thom OwensTalitha MacKenzie's second solo album, Spiorad, is an invigorating update of traditional Celtic, Gaelic and Eastern European music. MacKenzie bases her songs on traditional folk melodies, sending ancient music into uncharted territory by performing them with the immediacy of pop and the freewheeling eclecticism of the best jazz. It's a wonderful result that reveals rich, hidden layers upon each repeated listen.
