The new 2013 release, Daylight is Fading, is a collection of 11 very personal songs by Indie musician Dale Freeman, written over the past 15 years. The creative energy, along with fine musicianship, is vividly strong in this album, and it finally arrives as truly a"debut album" for Freeman.Quite different from Freeman's previous children's music, this is an adult album where the words, as well as the music, play vital roles in the composition and delivery of the songs. Strong love of family leads as the theme in many of the songs, and the depth of that love, is clearly laid out for all to see. Reflections of that are in such songs as, And I Whispered, In Your Arms, City for Daddy, Goodbye Joan of Arc, and Of You. Connections to the past are evident in several songs like Robinson Crusoe, The One Step, (a song about a British soldier losing a leg in WWI), and the title track, Daylight is Fading, (based on images of childhood memories). Fun and eclectic songs bring a lightness to the album as well in such songs asBirds of a Feather (penned with Freeman's daughter about hanging out with our kindred spirits), and You're the One, (a Beatles-style creation complete with jangly guitars).Excellent musicians contribute much to the album in arrangement and performance. Violinist Bryan Christensen, from the Celtic band Songs for Ceilidh, contributes some fine playing on The One Step, and Steven Higgs on keyboard, Jodi Stevens on bass, and Chris Stevens on percussion, surround Freeman's guitar playing and vocals, creating a uniquely entertaining and well-balanced result in Daylight is Fading.
