"Losing With Grace" is the second album of Tunbridge Wells, UK, based indie band"The Third Space". Poppy melodies, jangly guitars, three-part harmonies and wry observational vignettes characterise the eleven tracks here:01) Papers - an eighties-style, synths-soaked rock diatribe against voter apathy and the occasional perniciousness of the British media.02) Entertaining Others - a piano led ballad revisiting a marital break-up and subsequent rejuvenation. 03) Chemical Boy - an upbeat homage to the enabling properties of anti-depressants. 04) Love Defined- jangly and harmony drenched rumination on the mysteries of love. Imagine Pink Floyd singing doo-wop.05) When You Were Kids - a calypso / ska style number about the inevitable time when teenagers no longer want to hang out with their Dad, this song laments the passing of the days when they did!.06) Stephen Amongst Violets (From Memory) - a gentle, folksy rumination on loss and memory, written for someone close to the band who lost a brother (Stephen) in a light aircraft crash, after which she experienced a recurring dream which replayed to her a recollected a scene from childhood in which she was a young girl again, babysitting Stephen as a toddler in a park filled with violets.07) The Choices You Make - an upbeat, jangly retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet.08) (Just Another) Country Song - as its name suggests, a country-and-western song, examining the"idea" or"ideal" of America, from both an internal and external perspective. Within the USA, both the left and right wings of American politics frequently invoke the perceived intentions of the founding fathers and accuse the opposition of betraying those ideals. From an outsiders' viewpoint, there is also a very powerful"idea" or"ideal" of America as imagined by migrants looking for a better life. The point being that both viewpoints are essentially imagined. 09) The Irony Blues - a straightforward rock-and-roller, chronicling the confusion of a British city gent who feels he is a Mississippi delta blues man trapped inside a pinstripe suit. Ironic also in that the song is not actually a blues song but a rock-'n'-roll song. And it cuts across two separate major keys: E and A. Eclectic!10) Gone (The Light You Are) - a quirky, riff-driven eulogy, celebrating the short life of Third Space member Joe Farthing's much loved nephew Angus Ellis, who tragically passed away in May 2013. The song chronicles many actual events that happened in Angus' life. 11) Song For Angus - piano and voice led lament to Angus, sung by his uncle (and Third Space member) Joe Farthing. This album is dedicated to the memory of Angus Vincent Ellis (09 September 1983 - 09 May 2013) whom left us prematurely at the age of only 29. May you rest in peace, sweet prince....
