Following the path of innovators such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Prince, Rai C handles all the vocals and production duties on the new single"Hurry Up and Slowdown" from the upcoming"HIgh-Definition Soul" CD. Familiar layered vocals and plently of lush classic Fender Rhodes are what Rai C serves up here. From the opening intro,"Hurry Up..." draws the listener into a sonic landscape of ol' school vocals, jazz tinged sax solos, clean solid lead vocals and a surprising B-3 organ bit for a little spice. Virginia born Rai C is quick to give homage to"my teachers" (those artists whose influences are heard in his work). He relates when asked who his favorite artists are....he says he's always been a big fan of the producers...Quincy Jones, Maurice White, The Chi-Lites' Eugene Record, Gamble & Huff, Thom Bell...and the list goes on. There's no doubt that"Hurry Up and Slowdown" would not have been out of place with any of these innovators, but Rai C delivers the production goods in a manner that shows lessons learned very well. If this single is a preview of whats to come, then"High-Definition Soul" should bring more than a few nods of approval from the listeners and lovers of this"new classic" sound.
