The Sound of Glass is a sound work jointly released by Taiwanese independent musician CHAN YUNG AN and SpringPool Glass, a company specializing in glass recycling and reprocessing.This work begins with field recordings, meticulously documenting the stages that glass undergoes during its recycling process. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, it explores new possibilities between traditional industries and musical creation.The Sound of is a series of works by independent musician CHAN YUNG AN. Centered on field recordings, the series involves personally capturing sounds and creating music, establishing a connection with the physical world to produce albums that reflect contemporary Taiwan and society. CHAN YUNG AN hopes that his works can act as a “time machine,” allowing contemporary and future audiences to travel to specific times and places through sound. At the same time, the project aims to use musical creation as a platform for critical reflection, making music not just an outlet for emotion but also a means of focused attention.SpringPool Glass is Taiwan’s largest glass recycling factory, processing nearly 70% of the country’s discarded glass, with an annual recycling volume reaching an impressive 100 million kilograms. Its founder, Wu Chun-Chi, has been engaged in the glass industry for over 50 years since 1961. Currently, SpringPool Glass operates five waste glass processing and reprocessing plants in Hsinchu and Miaoli, handling approximately 70% of Taiwan’s discarded glass. Its mission is to continuously circulate limited resources into sustainable materials, paving the way for the next step in Taiwan’s circular economy.Against this backdrop, CHAN YUNG AN visited all five of SpringPool Glass’s factories, recording nearly ten hours of sound material. These recordings were condensed into a 15-track, 39-minute album, marking the first chapter of the The Sound of Glass series.-The Sound of Glass是由台湾的独立音乐人詹咏安与回收玻璃与再处理之企业“春池玻璃”所共同推出的声音作品。本作品以田野录音为起点,详细记录了玻璃循环所经历的阶段,尝试透过跨领域共创,找寻传统产业与音乐创作之间新的可能。The Sound of是独立音乐人詹咏安的系列作品计划,本系列将以田野录音为核心,透过亲自收录声音与创作音乐,和实体世界产生连结,制作出能代表当代台湾、当代社会的纪录性质音乐演奏专辑,詹咏安期待他的作品可以成为一台时光机,带著当代与未来的观众,一起透过声音回到某个特定的时间与地点。同时本计划也希望透过音乐创作抛出更多议题性反思,让音乐不只是情绪抒发,更是聚焦注意力的一种手段。春池玻璃是台湾最大的玻璃回收工厂,回收近七成台湾废弃玻璃,每年回收量达到惊人的一亿公斤。春池玻璃创办人吴春池,自1961年起,投入玻璃产业至今已超过50载。目前春池玻璃在新竹与苗栗有五座废玻璃处理、再加工厂,回收的废玻璃约占台湾的七成。其目标致力于把有限的资源,不停的循环使用,使其变成永续的材料,走出台湾循环经济的下一条路。在这样的前提背景下,詹咏安走访了春池玻璃的五座工厂,收录了将近十小时的声音素材,整理浓缩成一张15首歌曲、39分钟的专辑,以The Sound of Glass为系列作品开启第一个命题。
