I write songs as they come to me. I don't sit down at a table like a disciplined writer and crank out the lyrics and the tunes. I wait until a song comes along and presents itself, whereupon I grab it, wrestle it to the ground and subdue it. Many times, that song never gets finished, but here is proof that at least 14 times in recent years I was successful. That's why it takes years between my album releases.This music is home-made, crafted in my home studio and distributed via the web to find its niche audience. It's not pop radio stuff, it's a personal take on the Americana-folk-rock-blues-jazz-indie-alternative-singer-songwriter genre. Reviewers have said things like"a cool and signature sound" and"a great folksy vibe that definitely captures an earlier time in record making." They also usually say the music is"dated" or"not contemporary enough." And they're right, I suppose. Sometimes what they meant by"dated" was that it sounds like something from the 90's. Well, I still listen to the music I grew up with in the 60's and 70's, and I listen to music from the 30's and the 2010's, so"dated" doesn't sound like a criticism to me. In fact, that's my target audience - people for whom labels are unimportant.I think of my songs primarily in terms of the lyrics. The English language is a rich medium, especially if you can layer into it all sorts of cultural references and verbal images that are like force-multipliers for words.
