People often ask us, “What do you do for a living?” It’s always a difficult question to answer. Here in North America, our first inclination is to tell what mundane job is stealing countless hours from our lives every single day. But this is not what we do. For what the six of us do is what we are passionate about. For the past several years, we have made our lives about music. It is our true passion. Everything else is just white noise. It’s why we work pointless, unfulfilled jobs, and smile and nod when people think it’s “cute” that we make music. They then go on to ask us how we make money. Contrary to pop culture, and the plethora of mind-numbing reality television, musicians do not always make money. Thankfully, Matt Sullivan, (drums/percussion) Dante Berardi, Jr., (guitars/backing vocals) Caitlin Grieve, (violins/backing vocals) Wooyoung Kim, (bass) and Jeff Greenway, (keys/synths) are well aware of that fact. Otherwise they would have ran for the hills when Nate Daniels (lead vocals, acoustic guitar) approached them with the prospect of pursuing a career that may never amount to the fame and fortune we have been glamoured into believing we are entitled to. After all, it is quite rare for talented and trained musicians like those that make up Cai.ro, to take a chance on an unknown singer-songwriter.As a band, we have distanced ourselves from expectation and have flirted with the fantasies of unbridled success, but above all we have created solid and deeply profound music that doesn’t conform to a certain genre, standard, or ideal. We are on the forefront of a movement fueled by a 21st century anti-manufactured organic sound. We are ready to share our journey and our sound with the release of our debut record, The Young Love EP. The six-track project is an amalgamation of years of humming and hawing, trail blazing and bridge burning, contemplation and reclusiveness, all penned into rich and sardonically optimistic song. Cai.ro means to conquer, which is what we are set out to do. Woven into these songs, are things that everyone struggles to conquer in their own life. In All These Colours, the wanderer fails to see anything new in surroundings that constantly change. In Addict, the story teller is forced to conquer their addiction by starving himself of the thing that has kept him alive for so long. Conquering ourselves is the focus in Vampyre, where our invisible reflection overshadows what we truly are.The Young Love EP is a cinematic soundscape that reaches into the emotional ups and downs of not only romantic love, but love in general. Think of it as a soundtrack for life.
