In 1973, I dropped out of Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia to study piano and music theory with Mrs. May Harrow, a semi-retired concert pianist. This experience fertilized a musical seed that had been planted years earlier while I was still in High School.After finishing graduate school with an MFA (in Painting) from Washington University in St Louis, and a career painting and designing for theatre and television, I moved from LA to Oakland where I began teaching Art. Settling for a time in Oakland, I resumed my musical endeavors after what had become a ten year hiatus. Beginning with lap steel -after hearing a street performer in SF- and then adding synthesizer and piano, I began to make recordings of my efforts. Because visual art and set design continue to be my 'day jobs', I have always referred to my music as"the Secret Project".I record all this music with very little digital manipulation. It's mostly just a microphones and a Korg multi-tracker and over the years trying to learn to hear everything that I would like to emerge from the mix. Lately the sound has become more 'un-plugged' than ever with acoustic instruments taking center stage. Enjoy!
