WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF ROCK & ROLL TO MOVE HEADS, HEARTS & FEET is the fifth album by Falkirk’s INTERNATIONAL POP ASSASSINS, released digitally worldwide on Seminal Recordings on the 29th August 2016.This is their first release for four years, and first album for five, a gap which can be explained by a mixture of laziness, disinterest and quality control. As frontman Eddie McKenzie explains:This album could have been released three years ago, but we decided to live with it for a few months, and in that time you realise that some of the tracks aren’t quite as good as you first hoped for. So you replace them, and decide to live with it for a few months, and then do this once again... and before you know it, four years has gone by. However, you do have an album that you are 100% happy with!There is also a change in style, away from the “live sound” of the act’s last album, a move forced by their retiral from the live circuit. McKenzie:There’s only so many brilliant gigs to empty venues you can play before you begin to repeat yourself, and we have no interest in repeating ourselves. Not playing live has been a blessing, allowing us to tackle new directions and sounds. Having said that, to me this album sounds like a direct progression from the last one.We’ve spent a long time getting the album to sound coherent, deliberately using the same synth sounds or guitar settings, repeating motifs of notes throughout songs, even using the same single recording of a tambourine on most songs by either slowing it down or speeding it up. The album does sound very programmed, however you’d be surprised at how many “real” instruments there are on there… it’s just that we’re not interested in repeating the clichés of rock and roll… and so therefore we set ourselves some strict ground rules, such as “no guitar solos”.So here it is: ten songs designed to appeal to your intellect, your emotions, and your dancing shoes.
