'The Butterfly Fight Club' is my debut full-length solo album. The songs are all my compositions, but the album you hear was definitely the work of an amazing team of players and engineers under the production efforts of Greg Di Gesu and Yours Truly. It all began with the Kickstarter campaign that I launched in November of 2014 to fund the recording of an album of songs which would then be pressed to vinyl. The campaign was a big success, which me the confidence to forge ahead and stay true to my vision and goals for the project. We began basic tracking for seven new songs on Tuesday January 19th, 2015 and, despite the effects of Juno (The Nor' Easter that wasn't), we spent three days recording to 2" 16 track tape at Cowboy Technical Services in Brooklyn. Almost every tune was recorded in one take, live in the studio, including lead vocals. We then invited a few friends to join us for some amazing overdubs. Dave Dreiwitz (Ween, JRAD) threw down some insane, psychedelic bass noise collage material, Mayu Saeki (Chico Hamilton's Euphorea) graced us with her magic flute, Todd Stoughton (Switch Factory) came down from the Litchfield Hills to pick some mandolin, my Los Lotharios bandmate and sometime songwriting partner Michael Parrish (Pinetop Perkins, Joe Louis Walker, Popa Chubby and countless others) tickled the ivories on his 100 year old Steinway and my good friend Mr. Peter"Church Boy" Levin (Gregg Allman Band, Blind Boys of Alabama) did his soulful best on the Hammond A-100. The contributions of Jeremy Carlstedt (drums) and Michael Harlen (bass and lap steele) cannot be overstated. Their performances were beyond great and Greg D, with help from assistant Nick macDonald, got some of the best sounds I've ever heard in the studio as well as contributed a li'l electric piano. Truly a great collaboration of immensely talented folks. The other major component of this work is the cover art. It is loosely based on a 1970's children's book with a similar title. The characters populating the cover are all hand painted by my mom, Mrs. Maureen Heidtmann, the typography was painstakingly rendered by my life partner, Ms. Suvi Asch, and the layout and overall design was done by my good friends Tim and Lisa for their company, 'Filter & Funnel.' Such excellent work deserves recognition, as it is (especially when comes to vinyl) an essential aspect of the album experience.Well, there's the synopsis. I hope you purchase and enjoy this work as much as I enjoyed creating it.Much love and best wishes- Cos
