This album is for the times while you're in a rocking chair, by a fire, drinking, smoking, praying, reminiscing, hurting, contemplating, focusing, feeling alive, feeling alone, and/or reaping the rewards of solitude. Having put out 3 fantastic albums of piano-slam-rock thus far, Pocket Vinyl felt the need to try to make a different kind of album. Inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, Elliott Smith, Badly Drawn Boy, Iron and Wine, and the softer side of Beck, they wanted to make an album for the quiet times. One that you put on by yourself. One without any screaming, piano-slamming, drums, or anything else that was prevalent on all other past efforts. One that explored the unsafe and quiet side of the spectrum of intensity."Tin" successfully hits that mark. Eric's voice barely lifts above a whisper for nearly the entire record, and his piano sounds like it's made of a thin glass, as if pressing the keys any harder would shatter the entire instrument. The album itself is a far cry from the highly orchestrated"Death Anxiety", having little more than vocal harmonies and the occasional cautious saxophone. So much of the power of the album comes from the power the songs are clearly holding back.
