Beyond Barricades are a spirited and distinctive folk acoustic trio from Melbourne. With a unique blend of voice and instruments they create an irresistible and impassioned musical style entwined around the art of storytelling. The band members are: Dean Merlino – voice, flute, penny whistleJudi Mitchell – voice, oboe, melodicaGez Paukovics – acoustic guitarSince forming in 2006 Beyond Barricades have performed across Victoria capturing the hearts of many. Highlights include a ‘live-to- air’ on radio 3RRR, their gigs at the Clifton Hill Hotel, the World Aids Day Concert at Federation Square 2006, The Churchill Island Music and Arts Festival 2007 and the inaugural Numurkah Foodbowl Music Festival 2008. They also support and have played at many community-based events.The biggest highlight so far for Beyond Barricades is the release of their self-funded debut album ‘New Year’s Day’ in December 2008.
