With this double EP release, D.J. Phillips combines the effervescent pop hooks of Happy and the insistent organic pulse of Sad to provide the listener with a two-sided perspective on love, loss, motivation, sympathy and more. Happy reminds us of the exuberance of youthful love in “This Time It’s Different; This Time It’s Better,” refuses to be silenced with the dance pop anthem “Speak Up” and adds a touch of toe-tapping melancholy in “Be Somebody Who Has Somebody.”Sad takes us through the heartbreaking loss of a friend in “Letting Go,” the aggravation of partisan politics in “Status Quo” and the embrace of a life well-lived in “All the Way.”In this, his second solo release, D.J. shows his deft skill earned through years as a pro guitarist without distracting with musical pyrotechnics. His engaging live show has generated two successful UK tours, hundreds of live performances in the U.S. and his melodic songs have produced placements on television shows like MTV's The Real World and Oxygen's Bad Girl's Club.
