Many Splendored Things marks a creative turn for James Dean Kindle & The Eastern Oregon Playboys as it is a full immersion into the sounds of country and western music (with slight forays into psychedelic, chamber pop, and rock and roll). Production of the album was handled by Sean Oglivie (Musee Mechanique, Trizteza) and mixing by Levi Cecil (Ages And Ages). The album features guest contributions from Laura Gibson, The Brothers Young, members of Mesee Mechanique, and various Pendleton community members that happened to be around while recording. Initial sessions for the album were recorded in an abandoned Masonic Lodge on Main Street in Pendleton with additional overdubbing taking place at Wooden Fences and Levi Cecil's house in Portland.
