Born and raised by the sea in Fort. Amherst NL, Mark was born to play. At the age of 4 years his father, also a player, put an accordion in his hands; and Mark has never looked back. A multi instrumentalist who plays accordian, mandolin, bouzouki, banjo and guitar and sings, Mark also performs with the band Shanneyganock playing and singing the songs that have become the trademark of the band.On his solo album, Mark, performs a selection of traditional songs as well as Newfoundland country songs heard on a regular basis in his parents and grandparents house. This is Newfoundland country at it's best, delivered in Mark's distinctive vocal style.Mark performs a song that he has written “Lost” The North Atlantic is referred by sailors as “Virgin Mary’s Graveyard”. The song tells of the loss of Mark’s cousin Noel who drowned off the rocks of Fort Amherst in 1986. This song is dedicated to his memory. On this recording Mark covers the Mac Wiseman country classic “Bringing Mary Home”, and traditional songs not heard in a long time “Green Grow The Laurels”, “Lady Margaret”, and “Paddy The Peddler”. As well Mark covers “The Music Takes Me Back”, an overlooked song by Brian Twaites.Even though Mark has recorded a solo CD, he plans to continue singing and performing as a member of the band Shanneyganock.
