Stan Ransom, the Connecticut Peddler, discovered these songs after searching collections on Long Island in the 1960's and interviewing old-timers. Long though lost, this collection shows the variety of old-time and historical songs of Long Islanders from pumpking to pirates, shellfish to shipwrecks, and whales to wars. Stan presents these songs as a tribute to the hardy folks who went whaling and fishing and suffered occupation by the British during the Revolutionary War. Be sure to see a second CD which completes the set of tradtional Long Island music,"My Long Island Home," which also includes additional songs reflecting the lives of Long Islanders. Stan sings and plays guitar, mandolin and hammered dulcimer."My Long Island Home" and"I Love Long Island" beautifully underscore the many talents of Stan Ransom and represent a polished exhibition of his versatility as a performer and recording artist. Well-written, detailed liner notes further sweeten this already-tasty pot."--Eileen Roys,"Autoharp Clearinghouse."
