Southside Looking In is Manny Phesto’s debut full-length project. Produced entirely by Mike the Martyr, the project features his signature soul sample driven production - a few of Martyr’s production credits include AG, Sadat X, and Slug of Atmosphere. Guest features include Akrite, Metasota, Greg Grease, Axel Foley and Mike the Martyr. DJ Just Nine provides scratches on three of the fifteen tracks. On Southside Looking In Phesto’s stream of consciousness delves into topics ranging from childhood on the southside of Minneapolis to geopolitical turmoil, and from kicking it on rooftops to the prison industrial complex. His writing balances the seriousness of life with knowing when to relax and let go. His music is a representation of his upbringing by radical working class parents, one of whom supplied the artwork for the project (Ricardo Levins Morales)."Entirely produced by Mike the Martyr, Southside Looking In is Manny Phesto's tribute to the many sides to the inner city, as he drifts between celebratory and critical lines about the everyday life. Playing with the sampled soul beats with straight-forward but powerful raps, the album takes a blunted look at society and calls out modern problems both systemic and personal. With a great sense of imagery and rhyme patterning, Manny crafts an excellent album you'll want to return to." - Jack Spencer (Gimme Noise, City Pages)All Production - Mike the Martyr for Lake Street Store productionsAll Scratches - DJ Just NineAll Artwork - Ricardo Levins Morales - www.RLM ArtStudio.comAll Mastering - Dillon Parker for Stophouse Studio2014 True Mutiny Collective | Manny Phestowww.mannyphesto.com | info@mannyphesto.com
