Mino the band produces an eclectic sound that draws on jazz-inspired pop, funk, and R&B. Started by saxophonist Patrick Chung and vocalist Cindy Zhang in early 2016, the group comprises of students from the University of California, San Diego who met in Kamau Kenyatta’s jazz ensemble. The musicians in the group, who have backgrounds in classical piano, jazz, and Latin music, infuse the sound with vibrant horn melodies and technically challenging piano solos.
