Rarely does one find a rock band that displays as much authenticity and honest emotion as Old Man Shattered. Old Man Shattered, formed in Albuquerque in 1997, has accomplished more than the average local garage band. OMS's debut album, In Light of Who You Are, independently released, was nominated in four categories at the NMMIA Awards, held annually in New Mexico; Best Religious Song, Best Mainstream Song, Best Album of the Year, and Best Song of the Year. While they only took home one award (Best Religious Song), they were nominated alongside artists who had been in the industry upwards of 20 years. Their debut album also spawned four radio releases including Mr. Prodigal, which went #1, and Surrender, which peaked at #3 on Massive Radio, a nationally broadcast CHR station. As a result, Be Magnified, which Meyers wrote in memory of Columbine High School Shooting victim Cassie Bernall, OMS is listed on a memorial plaque which hangs inside the high school, and the song was played at the one year memorial of the shooting. Quite an accomplishment with a debut, indie release. They have shared the stage with Shinedown, Crossfade, Strata, Skillet, Moth, The Exies, Jessica Simpson, Delirious, Sonic Flood, Fivespeed, Plumb, All Star United, The Waiting, Every Day Sunday, Kids in the Way and The David Crowder band, among others. In July of 2003, OMS exploded onto the national music scene with the release of their sophomore effort, The Other Side of Fear, which combines an edgy, mainstream rock sound with strikingly meaningful lyrics. The albums first single, Sentimental Time charted within the top 30 on the Christian rock charts as reported by Radio and Records for the months of September, October and November, and continues to gain recognition among media and industry insider .With fiery guitars and authentic vocal from OMS front-man and songwriter, David Meyers, The Other Side of Fear hits home with songs like Sentimental Time, Relentlessly, and Perilous. We sing about our lives, our dreams, and our fears. Real stuff that people go through and the meaning behind it. Meyers said.OMS was and still is about passion, and having an outlet to express what we believe and feel says McDermott."The End of the Matter" is the third release from the band. The album is the strongest to date form OMS with songs like"All For Nothing""Crash and Burn" and"Disassembled" The new album is sure to please!Their influences range from Alterbridge to Metallica, and from Johnny Rzeznik to Mark Tremonti, with bands from The Choir to Project 86 and everything in between. One thing they all have in common is their desire to play music and the intensity with which they pursue it. Old Man Shattered has struck a balance between the spontaneity and honesty of live performance while maintaining the sound of seasoned musicians. With their contemplative lyrics which may cause a few fans to think twice, their fun-loving antics that never fail to generate some laughs, and their earnest desire to display the depth that is otherwise lacking from your average pop-culture rock band, Old Man Shattered, while having come a long way from where they began, still feel that they are at the beginning of their journey, with a lot to learn, a lot to teach, and a long way to go.
