Omer Avital is a poet of the bass, widely hailed by international musicians, critics and fans as one of the most innovative and exceptional musicians of his generation. His compositions range from works for small jazz groups to orchestral and world music. Born in the small Israeli town of Givataim, Omer made his way to New York City in search of a more promising jazz setting and quickly became a hotly sought-after sideman. He performed, recorded and toured with such jazz legends as Roy Haynes, Jimmy Cobb and Nat Adderly. The Omer Avital Groups album for SmallsLIVE is an energetic and lively set of originals featuring the virtuoso work of trumpeter Avishai Cohen, tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm, pianist Jason Lindner and drummer Johnathan Blake.
