These albums are reflections of the many travels from his home state of Louisiana to his adopted summer work area of northern New Mexico. As an architect for many years, Mason spends time in the Southern Rockies doing design work, photography, and exploration of the rugged environment. The music is a result of returning to the piano after many years of concentration on design as an architect. Some of the new direction is a result of being given a Steinway by his father and wife to work out some motorcycle hand injuries.The themes are developed out of a desire to move from the early years of classic concert piano to improvisational jazz. His heroes in music may be seen in Ellis Marsalis, Burt Bacharach, Myles Davis, Herby Hancock, Chic Corea, and Harry Connick, Jr.
