Ancient Brethren CD by The Teresa Law Band After many years in the music industry, Australia's very own Teresa Law has at last released her own CD. Called Ancient Brethren, she describes it as “original contemporary folk with Celtic and bluegrass influences”. A river girl born and bred in Berri, South Australia, Teresa’s passion for music started from her first piano lesson, just shy of her fifth birthday. Over the years, she learnt how to sing and play the flute, also performing with her brother Jamie’s rock band which toured the Riverland and Adelaide. Her passion and obvious ability developed academically with a diploma at the Flinders Street School of Music and degree through the conservatorium at The University of Adelaide, also branching out into opera and percussion. While teaching classical music, Teresa was also belting out rock tunes in local bands, such as Feeding Thyme and Girls on Top. She even played flute live on the Led Zeppelin classic Stairway to Heaven with the tribute band, The Zep Boys, that Jamie had joined, and on a CD track by White Lion, a US rock band Jamie was also in. After moving to Mannum several years ago, she formed Teresa and the Tinkers with some like-minded musos she’d stumbled across at various music festivals. Sensibly changing the name to The Backwater Band, they became a local institution, with most people in the region seeing them perform covers of classic country and pop songs, as well as splendid originals, at the markets, shows and pubs around Mannum and the region. After that band recently broke up, Teresa formed her own group, The Teresa Law Band, and, after constant requests from fans, has now recorded an original CD, Teresa’s first.Playing on the album are some exceptional musicians in their own right. Lachlan McLeod, who recorded and produced the CD at his Habitat Studio in Penola, has performed extensively, including in Japan, written jingles, and made five solo albums. He is a genuine multi instrumentalist playing violin, mandolin, acoustic guitar, banjo and backing vocals on the album. He also wrote 10 of the original songs on The Ancient Brethren CD. Teresa’s brother Jamie Law can boast genuine rock star credentials, with stints in major bands in the US and Australia, he was guest artist on the CD playing two exceptional acoustic guitar solos.Theo Vandersman is a classically-trained musician, who has also performed and recorded with the Sister Janet Mead Band. He played upright bass and sang backing harmonies on the CD. The CD was launched with a special performance on Sunday 30th April 2017 at the Mannum Hotel, to great acclaim. This exceptional new release showcases the astonishing voice of Teresa coupled with exceptional original songs, and heralds her inception into the original music world. It's her debut masterpiece.
