This album is proof that Old Time Country Songs are NOT Dead and Gone! No pop, rock, rap, let’s pretend we’re country wannabe music, here. Created by Mike Johnson in 1987, Roughshod Records has steadfastly stuck to its roots and continues to preserve that traditional country sound. This wonderful collection of songs is propelled by the gifted musicianship, fresh insight, and old soul of 20-year old James Adelsberger and long-time country songwriter and yodeler Mike Johnson. This album takes you back in time to when the Fiddle, Steel, Dobro, Mandolin, and Piano were just as important as the artist. This exciting 13-song line-up features “Riversong”: a white water excursion written by James Adelsberger that will get your adrenaline pumping. The rest of the songs were written by Mike Johnson, including two co-writes, “Could Be the Whiskey Talkin’” with James, and “Liquid Hell” a hard driving moonshine song with Leo Maimone. Upbeat duets on “Anybody Here Love A Nut?” and yodeling “Your Old Lady Strut” will have you toe-tapping and smiling and dancing to the beat of “Sweet Abilene” “Or You Can Tell Her That You’re Sorry” and “Doctor! Doctor!” However, the ‘meat and taters’ that glue this release together is how James captures that genuine traditional sound on “Are They Really Dead and Gone?” “Me and My Sad Self” Bad Whiskey Bad Sex and Bad Men” and “Barrooms and Bedrooms.” You can bet old Hank, Lefty, and George Jones are sittin’ in Hillbilly Heaven’s front row seats grinnin’ like possums. Produced by Mike Johnson and James Adelsberger, this is Roughshod Records 49th CD and it was released on 15 November 2014 along with Mike Johnson’s “Doggone It I’ve Written a Sad Song Again” the label’s 50th CD. James plays all the instruments on both releases except the Fiddle. He wrote the music scores and employed his fantastic fiddling friend Michael Romans to give them life. On 18 December 2014 both CDs were acquired by the Recorded Sound Reference Center at the Library of Congress for inclusion their growing “Mike Johnson” collection. This began in April 2007 with the acquisition of 114 of Johnson’s yodeling songs and related music material by Library Official Janet McKee, who received these as well. James is from Northern Virginia and he was signed to Roughshod Records in August 2012. His first release debuted on 14 November 2012, a CD Single featuring two Mike Johnson songs “Back Home Again” - “The Holy River.” He is a BMI songwriter member and owns J.A. Music publishing which also has its own official ISMN numbers for producing sheet music and music books. He is currently a Sophomore at George Mason University and the drummer for Forgetting August and Cinema Hearts rock bands. James received his first radio airplay in February 2013 on DJ Cowboy Werner’s “Radio Sound of Heaven” show in Germany with “Back Home Again” and “The Holy River” from his CD Single.
