Gonna Fly NowWriten by Bill Conti and made famous as the main theme of the Rocky movies. Egbert wrote this arrangement in 2005, based on the disco version which jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson released on his 1977 album ‘Conquistador’. Therefore a Yamaha DTXpress electronic drum kit is being used on this Toos track - and on this one alone. 2. 25 or 6 to 4Released in 1970 by the American band Chicago, written by Robert Lamm. This arrangement of Maarten’s dates from 2010 and is inspired by a big band version and the original single version released by Chicago.3. Oye Como Va Santana made this song world famous on their 1970 album ‘Abraxas’. The original version was written in 1963 by Tito Puente. Toos’ arrangement, from 2008, follows the Santana version with minor infuences from the Puente’s original recording.4. Voor HaarThe Dutch version became famous on home turf with the Dutch singer Frans Halsema’s rendition in 1977. Originally titled ‘Her Song’, it was written in 1970 by Jake Holmes. This instrumental 2007 arrangement features a nice solo for the tuba.5. Adagio for StringsSamual Barber composed this piece in 1936 as part of his string quartet Opus 11. In 1967 he also wrote an adaptation for choir of this popular work. The arrangement on this album by Egbert was written in 2007 as an abridged version for the fourteen wind instruments of Toos.6. GalopDmitri Shostakovich wrote this Galop in 1958 as part of the light opera ‘Moscow, Cheremushki’. It forms a sharp musical contrast with his fifteen symphonies and fifteen string quartets. Egbert’s arrangement was written in 2007.7. Old And WiseThis Toos adaptation from 2005 is special, not in the least because the famous alto saxophone solo can be heard in all its glory - the original version by The Alan Parsons Project in 1981 fades out, on the album ‘The Eye in the Sky’. Moreover, Egbert chose to base the extended coda of this arrangement on the instrumental version on Andrew Powell’s album ‘The Philharmonia Orchestra Plays the Best of the Alan Parsons Project’ from 1983.8. SofaA beautiful composition by the American composer and guitarist Frank Zappa. Originally released in two versions on the 1975 album ‘One size fts all’, and also released as a live version on the 1977 album ‘Zappa in New York.’ and on the 1988 album “ You can’t do that on stage anymore vol.1” . This arrangement for Toos is based on these versions.9. Hocus PocusThe biggest hit by the Dutch band Focus with Jan Akkerman and Thijs van Leer. This Toos version is based on the U.S. single version, which difers from the original in the higher tempo and an alternative intro.10. Tango ApasionadoThe original was composed by Astor Piazzolla for piano and bandoneon in 1988 and was released on the album ‘The Rough Dancer And The Cyclical Night (Tango Apasionado)’. In 2011 Maarten wrote an arrangement for fourteen wind instruments and percussion.11. Why (am I treated so bad)Written by Roebuck Staples in 1967 for the Staple Singers. This arrangement by then Toos alto-sax player Jake was written in 2005 and is an interpretation of the version that appears on the 1967 live album ‘Why am I Treated so bad!’ by Cannonball Adderley.12. MatzemeelOriginally written in 2011 by Job Chajes (known from the Amsterdam Klezmer Band) for fanfare band. Egbert wrote an abridged interpretation of the original composition with permission (and approval) of the composer himself.13. Soul Bossa NovaWritten in 1963 by Quincy Jones and best known for the soundtrack of the 1999 movie ‘Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me’. This arrangement by Egbert was written in 2005.14. Mr Blue SkyWritten by Jef Lynne of The Electric Light Orchestra for the 1977 album ‘Out of the blue.’ In 2007 Toos’ tuba player Damae wrote this arrangement, not long before exchanging Toos and Holland for Norway.
