This is a solo work in the sense that all of the compositions were written, and instruments played by Bill Burke. Most tracks achieve a multiple instrument sound, or band sound through multi-tracking and use of guitar synthesizers. You will hear nylon and steel string acoustic and electric guitars, bass, mandolin, piano, cello, flute, sax, voice, sitar, koto, and assorted percussion. The tempos and mood varies from composition to composition. It is difficult to select a style for classification because many are represented. There is world music, string music, rock, jazz, acoustic, all mixed in. Melody is king. The original artwork is from paintings by Naila Parveen. (Naila.Art.com).Jaanji opens the album with the theme played on a Japanese koto obtained during a community fundraiser after the tsunami. Two other variations later appear featuring percussion and electric guitar. Amma's Shooting Star was written after seeing a star flash across the December night sky; the track features guitar and cello. The electric guitar soars on Hurricane Island, You Are My Country, and At Peace; jazz guitar on The Whole World and Naila. The sounds of a storm morph into Like Rain Falling. The title track, Shelter No.3 - a place where magical things happen, features acoustic guitar and percussion. Mandolin and sax are featured respectively on Transcendence and My Treasure Chest; acoustic guitar on Mera Dil Mari Jaan and Chimes in the Wind; vocals on Go Figure and You Float Through Me, and sitar on You Are My Country and Naila.
