Heather Thornton began writing original music at the age of 12. She studied classical and jazz vocal styles, and music composition in school, applying this knowledge to her 20+ years of performing live."Working for a Living - ain't what it used to be" is her 4th official solo album, and she says it is her best yet. Thornton wrote and produced this album. She also recorded everything but the piano, which she did at Soundworks Teaching and Recording Studio in Blue Springs, MO with Andy Oxman, who also did the album mix. Her music translates well into any genre and she loves to challenge her listeners. Her style is very eclectic, but once you have heard Heather Thornton, you will remember her. Blending pop, jazz, blues, rock and doo wop, she has created a very retro sound using vocal harmonies, bass, piano, drums, and some guitar. Heather chose three musicians she has worked with closely over the last decade to feature on this project. Brian Ruskin on guitar, Jeramy Johnston on guitar and bass, and Bree Plaster on drums and percussion. The creativity of this group is inspiring. The song"Teddy Bear" left Heather perplexed about what to do with the percussion. On the day of the recording, Bree came into the studio with a spinning airplane toy, a happy face wine bottle, and a kalimba. This turned out to be one of the most interesting, and creative songs on the album.Be sure and check out all of Heather's albums from"Open Road" released in 2006, to"Merry Christmas to Me!" released in 2009, and her highly acclaimed album"Obvious" released in 2011 with Saunders Street Records."Obvious" was submitted by a member of The Recording Academy for Grammy consideration in 16 different categories. Heather is hoping to achieve even greater success with her new album,"Working for a Living - ain't what it used to be".
