Riko started out playing drums at the age of 9.Lessons were in the order for about 6 years. Bands were put together with his brother Aureliano Perez Jr. through the early years. High school band, rock bands and state competitions where the focus until high school graduation. After graduation from high school, Mom and Dad gave the ultimatum of junior college or moving out! With an interest in electronics, junior college took priority over music for the first time. College put music at a stand still for 4 years due to an opportunity with a co-op program. Automotive engineering became the focus but music was always throwing jabs in the back of the brain if you know what I mean! After a 2 year degree in EET was completed, a paycheck and the assistance of living at home with mom and dad, made real music gear the prioity. Mom and dad thought the bug was over since a real job in the automotive engineering field was obtained but they had only created a monster! Music gear was coming into the house on a weekly basis and it wasn't leaving. Another set of drums and a new 24 channel board with mics and all. By this time music was back into high gear with the only limits being knowledge of the music industry. I'll repeat that again, No knowledge of the music industry. Jumping into bands back and forth started to become boring and it was also quite a chore to move a 10 piece drumset with riser and all. Original music wasn't cutting it and there certainly was no pay involved in that circuit. A blues band and a classic rock band were the next stepping stones along the way and they included some pay for the first time. All about this time frame, which expanded across 5 years, Riko picked up a bass guitar and took a few lessons and it was only a matter of weeks before the bass was put on the back burner and guitar was picked up. A few lessons on the guitar and the music started flowing out like it had been pent up for twentysome years. A demo was recorded on a 4-track with all parts played and sang by Riko, with the exception of lead guitar. During the recording of the demo a marriage came into the picture which slowed the process down. The first demo took about 3 years to complete and it was a compromise to say the least. Lessons learned which basically boiled down to, don't compromise on anything that doesn't make you feel good during playback. The other tracks will not cover it up!A new digital 8-track machine was purchased along with a slew of guitars for the next project. The next project was started in 1999 and is still being worked on due to the usual 40 hour work week, a new marriage and a house. A studio was built in the basement with the pricetage of time taking a full year to complete. After completion of the studio a band by the name of TYRANNy was recorded. The band took 60 hours of time to record which took care of tweeking the studio. Riko's project finally resumed in 2004 and is now currently in process.Knowledge of the music industry was something that took some time to understand and act upon. It seemed that most of the original bands that Riko had worked with had little or no knowledge of the industry they were trying to break into. Riko started to research this when making the first demo and found a whole bunch of information that would just bring reality into perspective. So as everyone was worried about what they were going to do on Friday and Saturday night, Riko was plugging away at trying to figure out how to market his own music without spending millions, which he didn't and doesn't have. And that's what brings us to date. So take a listen and let me know what you think.
