Julio El Catrás aka Julito Candela is a distinguished urban musician that fuses his Latin American identity with the cultural influences of the United States and beyond. He was born in 1984 as Julio César Sandoval Álvarez to Honduran parents in Los Ángeles, California and grew up some of his childhood in Central America with a Caribbean influence as a result of his extended family heritage. Due to his Honduran inheritance, his distinctive name of “El Catrás” is a derivative of the nickname of “Catrachos” bestowed to Hondurans. He was raised by a Cuban step father who naturally infused multi-cultural influences in him from the Caribbean region spanning Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic as well.
